Stivers to Kilroy: Do Your Job!
Failing in their most basic responsibility, House Democrats have confirmed they will not pass a budget for the first time since the Congressional Budget Act was adopted in 1974.
"Families throughout Ohio and the nation, have to make tough decisions and balance their budgets but Congresswoman Mary Jo Kilroy thinks we can run a multi-trillion dollar spending program without a plan," said Republican nominee Steve Stivers.
Washington leaders are evading their budget duties so out-of-control spenders like Congresswoman Kilroy don't have to vote on the record deficits and the national debt they're creating. Meanwhile, children throughout Central Ohio are accumulating debt at a rapid pace. At only nine months old Sarah Stivers owes over $42,000 on the debt before she can even walk or talk.
For that, and many other reasons, Steve Stivers is committed to serious budget reform to cut the national debt. His plan includes:
Balanced Budget Amendment: No deficit budgets except in time of war or national emergency, with deficits restricted to defense or emergency response.
Line Item Veto: The President gets the power to block specific Congressional spending without need to veto the entire budget bill. Congress has override capability on each spending veto.
Two Year Budget: A single budget is adapted for each Congressional term, assuring more due diligence and less emergency spending legislation.
Zero Based Budgeting: Every discretionary program must win renewal each budget cycle. There is no assumed retention of any discretionary spending program.
A Congress unwilling to perform even the most basic responsibility to pass a budget, signals employers they must be ultra cautious with hiring plans, because politicians spending with abandon now, will tax excessively after the election. Congresswoman Kilroy's failure is killing jobs in the 15th district.
